Why Did This Break? Failure Analysis Can Tell You

When it comes to daily operations, product failures can occur. Items such as breakers, relays, switches, valves, order control buckets, circuit boards, and power supplies can break unexpectedly. While all parts can be replaced, the question remains, “Why did this part fail?” This is where failure analysis comes in.

Recently an electric company sent Constellation PowerLabs a Cyberex board from a battery charger that failed. The board was part of a power supply connected to the station battery charger. The PowerLabs Technician performed an in-depth technical analysis on the board and identified the cause of the failure. PowerLabs then sent the customer a report that covered the findings of the component failure. This included an overview of why the board failed and recommendations of what to do in the future to prevent similar failures.
